Our aim is to reach out to aged care residents, staff and their families by bringing our canine companions into their lives for some fun, hands on interaction. The dogs bring much joy to the residents as many of them recount stories of their own pets, laugh at the puppy antics or simply take pleasure in the touch of a silky coat.  Some residents throw the ball for Emi, who happily retrieves it and returns it to their hand, time and time again.

It is a delight to see the smiles that the dogs bring to the faces of people who often do not interact with anyone. We receive encouraging feedback from the  Diversional Therapists and Physiotherapists who are equally excited to see the responses the dogs achieve from the residents.  Most of the residents remember us each week, and surprisingly even some of the high care residents recall
not only the dogs, but their colour and when we last visited!

We have also had the pleasure of meeting many family members who are thrilled that their loved ones are receiving one-on-one visits from some very special friends.

We are always looking for more volunteers, so if you are interested in finding out more about Healing Dogs please contact us.

Our Team

  • Sari and Jane with Emi and Duke.
  • Sadly Minnie has moved on to a new home and will no longer be with us, but the joy she shared will long be remembered!
  • Our newest team members are Hayley and Lucy
